It's Not A Thing, It's A Sling

The other day someone saw me wearing Ellie in the ring sling and said, "I had one of those things with my kids, but I couldn't get them to stay in it". Another mom spoke up and said, "Yeah, I have one, but I can't get it to work right. I think I'm doing it wrong." I didn't know what to say. I finally commented that we LOVED our slings and couldn't live without them, use them all the time and yes, you probably were doing it wrong.

I really want to tell people just to be quiet if they don't get it.

When Ellie was small, I'd wear her in our New Native pouch sling and people would refer to it as "wearing that baby in a bag". I always thought it was because the sling is mesh and you can actually see the baby through the fabric...well that and that people are just ignorant. I was also constantly asked, "Does she like that?". Needless to say, this one really got me considering that Ellie was almost always asleep or just enjoying the ride. She never really fussed in the sling.

Now that she's a giant, I wear her on my hip most of the time or tummy to tummy. If she falls asleep (which still happens!) I can pull the sling over her head, tighten the rail and she's completely cozy, comfortable, safe and concealed from any outside elements. People still stare, and they still say stupid stuff.

I didn't wear The Muffin as much as I wish I had, but I wore baby Ellie for the first time on the day we came home from the hospital. I love it! I actually get teary eyed when I think about not being able to wear Baby Ellie after she gets even more giant. I want a mei tai just so that I can have another way to wear her.

Yes, she likes it. Yes, I like it. Yes, it's comfortable. And yes, it really is easier on my back than carrying her. If I have to carry Ellie for more than a few minutes my shoulders and back start hurting. I wore her in the grocery store for an hour today and I could have worn her for hours more.

I'm hoping that I can talk my my mommy friend A into letting me wear Baby T when I visit next week...I love it that much. She'll understand why I want to wear her baby because she's a babywearer too.

I asked for a Moby wrap for Christmas! It'll make my life so much easier, especially grocery shopping.
